ART·spiration: Sand Mandalas

This past week the Austin City hall was honored with the presence of six Tibetan Buddhist monks. Together, the monks created a beautiful sand mandala - a project that takes five days and 200 hours to complete.

The process is breath taking and when it is completed, the monks sweep all the sand up and wash it away in the river.

We are inspired not only by the monks' patience and skill, but by the brightly-colored, beautiful patterns created along the way.

If you missed the event, Werner Herzog created a beautiful documentary in 2003 that took a closer look at this ritual, titled Wheel of Time. Definitely worth a watch!
