ART·spiration: Reading List

Here at EFA, we love pulling inspiration from all sorts of sources for our projects. With it being summer, this is the perfect time for us to lay poolside and catch up on reading. Here is what we have our hands on right now!

1. Steal Like an Artist: 10 Things Nobody Told You About Being Creative

by Austin Kleon

Austin Kleon’s manifesto for the digital age, Steal Like an Artist is a guide whose positive message will put readers directly in touch with their artistic side. The book is filled with illustrations, exercises, and examples to help sharpen your creative muscles and push the reader into realizing that art can be fore anyone.

2. Color: A Natural History of the Palette

by: Victoria Finlay

This book is a fascinating read as it delves into the true stories behind your favorite colors.

Did you know that “ultramarine” blue was originally extracted from Afghan mines, and that it was so expensive that many artists couldn’t afford it?

3. Seven Days in the Art World

by Sarah Thornton

In a series of beautifully paced narratives, Thornton investigates the drama, workings, eccentricities and competitions behind the contemporary art world.

4. The Goldfinch

by Donna Tartt

For those looking for a little bit of fiction, The Goldfinch is a perfect fit!  After miraculously surviving a horrible accident, Theo Decker is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. All that’s left of his old live is a small, mysterious painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

5. Animal Kingdom: Color Me, Draw Me

by: Millie Marotta

Because adults can love colorings books too! Millie Marotta's series of coloring books are stunning even before you put pen or crayon to paper.
