ART·spiration: Rineke Dijkstra

We sure are enjoying the last days of summer! Today, EFA is pulling inspiration from the weather, and Rineke Dijkstra’s Beach Portraits.

Commissioned by a Dutch newspaper, Beach Portraits is a series of full-length, nearly life-size color photographs of children at the beach. By using the portraits of children in several different countries as a constant, the project also depicts the difference in culture in the United States, Poland, Britain, Ukraine, and Croatia.

The series was exhibited in 1997 in the annual show of new photography at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

What an incredible encapsulation of summer!
